Walking a Labyrinth at St Martin’s

A labyrinth is an ancient way of walking a personal prayer.

It’s a journey that always takes you into the presence of God and then back out into his world renewed, refreshed, perhaps with fresh insights and with the knowledge that He walks with you. It’s an invitation to slow down and still your mind.

The labyrinth will be laid out in the church with a rope marking a pathway.

The path forms a spiral and at the centre is the meeting place with God. Along the path are prayer points where there is the invitation to pause, reflect and pray. There will be questions to help you reflect and suggestions for your silent prayers.

Our labyrinth is called ‘The Journey of Life’ and the places to stop and reflect concern:

  1. Your beginnings. Who are you? Where did this life begin for you?
  2. Your spiritual journey. How did you come to faith? Who helped you?
  3. The people in your life who you have loved and who have loved you.
  4. The children who have peppered your life with their presence.
  5. The meeting place with God and the invitation to trust your life afresh into his hands.

You probably need about half an hour to walk the labyrinth but you could find you want to take much longer. There will be someone there to help you if you feel unsure about what to do, but there are no rights and wrongs.

Choose a time between 10.00 am and 4.00pm and simply come and walk and pray.

(There is no age limit and there will be chairs if you feel you would rather not sit on the floor.)
